What We Do
GSA Network
A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club, typically in a high school, that provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other and talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. GSAs may function as a support group, providing social support, safety and confidentiality to students. Some GSAs take on a more advocacy role, working to end homophobia by educating themselves and the broader school community about sexual orientation and gender identity issues.
Center Lane is the proud host of Westchester’s Gay
Straight Alliance Network.
Each month students & advisors from Westchester schools with established
or fledgling Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) come to Center Lane
to brainstorm, network and prepare for days of action. This forum
provides an opportunity for students to work on advocacy efforts
in their schools and to literally change the climate of their school.
Several GSA Network members also participate in Center Lane’s Leadership
council and use their skills to advocate for LGBT youth on
the county and state levels.
